I have always found cemeteries to be fascinating places. I find them to be peaceful and stunning, especially the older ones. There is such history to be found in them, so many stories to be told. I have a deep appreciation for mausoleums. I respect the need to house loved ones in these grand structures; to keep your family safe from the cold, hard ground.
I was able to visit Woodlawn Cemetery in The Bronx this afternoon. The cemetery is over 150 years old and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2011. I have been wanting to visit for a long time and am so thrilled that I was finally able to go. Time restraints only allowed me to be there for about an hour but I was still able to capture some beautiful shots. I will be returning soon in order to witness the cemetery in full spring bloom.
